Anambra Governor Soludo Wins Polling Unit with 417 Votes as Early Results Trickle In from Gubernatorial Election
The results of the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election began rolling in today, Saturday, November 8, 2025, marking a decisive early victory for the incumbent governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Soludo, the candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), convincingly won his own Polling Unit 002, Umuezeadigo Street, Isuofia, in Aguata Local Government Area.
The Presiding Officer, Miss Obiorah Anwulike, announced the results at approximately 5:30 p.m., confirming that the APGA candidate polled an overwhelming 417 votes out of the 430 accredited voters at the unit. His closest rivals trailed significantly, with the APC candidate securing four votes and the Accord Party candidate receiving just one vote. Eight votes were recorded as invalid.
The victory at his home base provides a significant psychological boost to Soludo and the APGA camp as the collation process begins.
Election Plagued by Low Turnout and Allegations
Despite the definitive result at the Governor’s unit, reports from across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State indicate a low voter turnout compared to the 2.8 million registered voters. Polling units, though well-secured, saw minimal participation throughout the day.
The election was also characterized by widespread allegations of vote buying. Governor Soludo himself, after casting his vote at 1:20 p.m., encouraged participation but spoke to journalists about a rival candidate engaging in vote buying to influence the process.
The eventual winner of the governorship race will be determined by the final results collated from the 5,720 polling units across the state, with the major battle being waged between Soludo, the APC’s Nicholas Ukachukwu, the Labour Party’s George Moghalu, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate. As results continue to be uploaded to the INEC IReV portal, the political climate in Anambra remains tense but hopeful for a conclusive outcome.
