Oyo APC Cancels Planned Stakeholders’ Summit, Delays Reconciliation Efforts Amidst Deep-Seated Factional Disputes
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has surprisingly shelved its planned internal reconciliation efforts, officially announcing the cancellation of the upcoming stakeholders’ summit that was intended to unify the party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. The decision, which signals a period of pronounced uncertainty, comes amid significant political tensions and persistent internal disagreements within the state party structure.
The Oyo APC chapter has historically been characterized by entrenched factional divisions that have hampered its ability to present a cohesive and unified front in previous elections. While recent attempts at fostering internal peace had shown some promise, recent developments indicate that the party leadership encountered what were described as insurmountable hurdles, ultimately preventing the successful organization of the summit which was planned for this week in Ibadan.
The cancellation has elicited immediate disappointment and concern among many party members, with political analysts warning that the delay could severely weaken the party’s positioning and diminish its prospects in the forthcoming elections. The leadership, operating under the current Oyo APC Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, has faced renewed criticism from stakeholders who expressed frustration over the perceived inability to broker effective reconciliation or achieve necessary consensus among the warring party factions.
Despite the official setback, party insiders indicate that informal efforts to resolve internal conflicts will continue behind the scenes. However, the cancellation of the high-level forum raises considerable questions about the APC’s current state of readiness for the 2027 general elections and whether it can sufficiently unify its structure to mount a formidable challenge.
