Osun APC Blasts Governor Adeleke Over Plan to Fix ‘Flawless’ Flyover Bridge Just Weeks Before 2026 Election

The political battleground in Osun State has erupted into a fierce war of words just weeks before the crucial August 15, 2026, governorship poll, with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing Governor Ademola Adeleke of attempting to manufacture a multi-billion-naira election slush fund under the guise of fixing a perfectly sound bridge.

The controversy kicked off after Governor Adeleke made a sudden stopover at the iconic Olaiya Flyover in the heart of Osogbo. Expressing visible worry over what he described as the deteriorating aesthetics and worsening state of the asset, the governor ordered the Ministry of Works to immediately move to the site. The directive mandates engineers to clean up the structure, fix any noticed operational defects, and ensure it visually complements the larger, newly built Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges constructed by his current administration. Defending the move, Adeleke maintained that because governance is a continuous cycle, inherited landmarks must be appropriately cared for.

However, the state chapter of the APC instantly tore into the governor’s infrastructure directive, calling the entire rehabilitation plan a completely unnecessary waste of public patrimony. The opposition pointed out that the Olaiya Flyover, which was designed and delivered by the previous administration of Adegboyega Oyetola, has not recorded a single structural defect or engineering failure since it was opened to thousands of daily commuters roughly four years ago.

The Head of the Media and Publicity Committee for the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, alleged that the rehabilitation order is a frantic, last-minute financial strategy. The opposition claims that independent public mood surveys show the electorate is increasingly tired of the ruling administration’s policies, pushing the government to seek backdoor avenues to raise capital.

“It is becoming completely transparent that Governor Adeleke is staring at a heavy defeat at the upcoming polls,” Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye stated during a campaign brief. “The Olaiya Flyover is structurally safe, sound, and fully functional. The only people advocating for its rehabilitation are those looking to pull funds out of the public treasury to finance desperate vote-buying networks ahead of the election. This is a manufactured project designed to secure cash jobs for political associates while critical sectors are crying for attention.”

Echoing the campaign’s stance, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi accused the governor of petty political sabotage. Olabisi argued that the administration is deliberately trying to run down and minimize Oyetola’s signature architectural legacy to avoid giving the previous government credit for transforming the capital’s landscape.

With both major parties trading heavy accusations over engineering contracts and political stability, the flyover row has quickly become the ultimate symbol of the high-stakes 2026 electoral race. As residents look on, the debate over whether the Olaiya bridge genuinely needs maintenance or is simply being used as a high-stakes campaign chess piece will likely dominate the talking points right up until voters head to the ballot box.
