PRP Woos Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso for 2027 Mega-Merger; Oldest Party Offers ‘Neutral Ground’ to Rescue Nigeria as Opposition Ranks Panic Over Mass Defections

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has stepped into the center of Nigeria’s political storm, offering a “Solution” to the fragmented state of the opposition. On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the party’s leadership “flipped the script” on the usual PDP-led coalition efforts, inviting Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso to abandon their fractured platforms and unite under the PRP’s “pro-people” banner.

The timing of this invitation is no coincidence. Following “Tuesday’s Tsunami” where 27 federal lawmakers defected to the APC and ADC the opposition has realized that staying divided is a “political death sentence.” The PRP is marketing itself as the only credible alternative, arguing that the PDP is too busy fighting itself and the Labour Party is too tied up in legal battles to lead a successful rescue mission. “Nigeria is bleeding, and we cannot wait for 2027 to start fixing it,” a senior PRP official stated.

However, the “Big Three” have yet to give a definitive “Yes.” While Peter Obi has reportedly held private talks with PRP leaders in Abuja this week, Kwankwaso is currently focused on his own reported move toward the ADC, and Atiku remains the “Elder Statesman” trying to keep the PDP from total collapse. The PRP’s pitch is simple: “Check your egos at the door and save the country.”

As the 2027 election cycle begins to accelerate, this move by the PRP represents a desperate but strategic attempt to create a “Third Force” that can actually go toe-to-toe with the ruling party. For the average Nigerian, the question remains: Can these political heavyweights actually unite, or will their personal ambitions once again pave a smooth road for the APC’s “Renewed Hope” agenda?
