FCT Police Smash Notorious 6-Man Kidnap Syndicate in Abuja; Gang Leader Neutralized as Operatives Recover AK-47s in Bloody Karshi Raid
The “security trenches” of the Federal Capital Territory saw a major victory this week as the FCT Police Command successfully neutralized the leadership of a kidnapping syndicate that has long terrorized the eastern borders of Abuja. In a coordinated operation that turned into a violent gun battle, police operatives took down the gang’s notorious leader, Baba Ibrahim widely known in the underworld as “Tsoho” effectively decapitating one of the region’s most active criminal cells.
Acting on a “digital-age” intelligence sweep, the tactical team stormed a hidden camp in the Karshi area on Sunday, May 3. The suspects, realizing they were cornered, reportedly opened fire on the police team, leading to a prolonged exchange. By the time the smoke cleared, “Tsoho” and his top lieutenant, Isah Shehu, lay dead, while one gang member was captured alive. Three others managed to scramble into the thick forest with suspected bullet injuries, leaving behind an arsenal that included two AK-47 rifles and a pistol.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, revealed that the syndicate was the primary force behind a wave of abductions that had paralyzed communities in Nyanya and Gwagwalada. “This wasn’t just a random group; this was a technical kidnapping operation that utilized the border between FCT and Nasarawa as a shield,” Adeh stated. “With the elimination of Ibrahim, we have disrupted a major supply line for insecurity in the capital.”
The breakthrough comes at a critical time as the 2027 transition cycle begins to stir political and social activity in Abuja. Security analysts believe this raid sends a “loud and clear” message to remnants of other gangs hiding in the hills of Jikwoyi and Karshi. As the one arrested suspect begins to provide “valuable data” to investigators, the police have intensified their border patrols to ensure the fleeing members do not regroup.
For the residents of Abuja’s suburbs, the news brings a much-needed sigh of relief. The Command has urged the public to stay vigilant and report any individuals seeking treatment for “suspicious injuries,” as the hunt for the final three members of the “Tsoho” gang continues across the FCT-Nasarawa axis.
