Ilana Omo Oodua Mourns Ex-Osun Education Commissioner and Yoruba Nationalist Prof. Wale Adeniran

The Yoruba self-determination movement and the academic community have been thrown into mourning following the passing of prominent scholar, former Osun State Commissioner for Education, and Yoruba nationalist, Prof. Adewale “Wale” Adeniran.

In a statement, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide—the apex body representing Yoruba self-determination groups—described his death as a monumental loss to the entire Yoruba nation.

Prof. Adeniran was a central figure in the Yoruba socio-political landscape, having served in top leadership capacities within Ilana Omo Oodua, including as Deputy Alana alongside Prof. Banji Akintoye and later as Chairman of the organization.

Beyond his activism, Adeniran built a respected legacy in public service and higher education. As a former Commissioner for Education in Osun State, he spearheaded significant initiatives aimed at strengthening public school standards, improving teacher capacity, and elevating youth literacy across the state.

Throughout his years in public life, Prof. Adeniran remained steadfast in his advocacy for Yoruba cultural preservation, economic emancipation, and regional self-determination.

Honoring his memory, leaders of the socio-cultural group paid glowing tributes to his intellectual rigor, personal integrity, and selfless service, noting that his contributions to education and the defense of Yoruba heritage will remain permanently etched in history.
