Troops from the Joint Task Force North-West, known as Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully stopped two kidnapping attempts and rescued ten people in Zamfara State on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The operations took place in the Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas.
According to Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the task force, the first rescue occurred in Kade Daba village, Kanoma District, where four villagers had been taken by terrorists. Acting on tips about the abduction, the troops quickly mobilized to the area and engaged the attackers. They rescued three victims immediately and later found another, bringing the total to four.
In a second incident along the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops heard gunfire while on patrol. They moved toward the sound and confronted terrorists who were trying to escape. Before the troops arrived, the attackers had set a vehicle on fire while attempting to kidnap its passengers, but fortunately, the occupants managed to escape.
Additionally, the troops rescued six people from another vehicle that lost control due to the gunfire. This vehicle was later removed from the road to ensure traffic could flow smoothly.
The Theatre Commander of the task force praised the soldiers for their quick actions and professionalism in protecting local communities. He emphasized the importance of ongoing operations against terrorists and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
