U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he does not believe China and Russia are providing assistance to Iran. He suggested that both countries have too much at stake to engage in such actions.
This statement comes as Trump faces scrutiny over reports that entities from China and Russia may have shared intelligence with Iran for attacks on U.S. troops. In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked, “If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t believe they are at all.” He emphasized that both nations would have too much to lose and that the U.S. would quickly become aware of any such cooperation.
Earlier in July, Trump had also dismissed claims that China and Russia were selling weapons to Iran, warning that such actions would be detrimental for them.
Trump’s comments reflect his often respectful tone toward Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, contrasting with his approach to U.S. allies. He has suggested that these leaders should be recognized as significant figures in global politics.
The backdrop to these remarks includes ongoing tensions, as the U.S. and Israel have been involved in military actions against Iran since late February, prompting Iran to retaliate with attacks in the region.
