Nyesom Wike Defends Rainbow Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is standing by his multi-party Rainbow Coalition as the 2027 general elections approach. During a media chat in Abuja, he emphasized that the coalition is here to stay.

Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), mentioned that he has supported some candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated, “I’m going to support Tinubu for him to realise his second-term ambition.” He clarified that he did not make any promises to governors and challenged anyone with issues to confront him directly.

Some APC governors have criticized Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, urging him to fully commit to one party. Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal expressed that Wike should either join the APC or clearly state his position, saying, “You can’t be on two sides.”

The Rainbow Coalition aims to gather support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Despite the criticism, Wike insists that his main focus remains supporting the president in the upcoming elections.
