Ondo Governor Orders River Fumigation and Health Kits After Air Force Crash

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken action after complaints about a bad smell from the Igbokoda River, where a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed last week. He has ordered the river to be fumigated and health kits, including nose masks, to be distributed to local residents.

The crash site has raised concerns about environmental pollution and health risks as recovery efforts continue. Aiyedatiwa directed the state’s Ministries of Environment and Health to start fumigation to prevent any disease outbreaks.

The Igbokoda River is an important resource for local residents, and the governor emphasized the need for clean water. He instructed the Ilaje Local Government Area to provide water tankers for residents if the river becomes too polluted to use.

In addition to fumigation, the governor’s directive includes distributing health kits to protect residents from potential health issues. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in its ongoing recovery operations.

The aircraft crash occurred on October 5, claiming the lives of all 25 people on board. Recovery efforts have been challenging due to the swampy conditions and the aircraft being submerged. Residents have reported a strong odor from the river, prompting calls for quicker recovery efforts from local leaders.

The Nigerian Air Force has increased its search efforts and set up a board to investigate the crash, while the Federal Government has also ordered an investigation into the incident.
