Nigerian Bar Association Investigates ₦100 Million Gift Mismanagement Claims
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has set up a committee to investigate claims of mismanagement related to a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the NBA Owerri Branch. This decision comes after concerns were raised by members of the branch.
183 members requested an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss the issue. In a statement, Badejo-Okusanya acknowledged receiving letters about the situation and emphasized the need for clear answers regarding the handling of the funds.
The committee will include the NBA General Secretary, Afam Okeke; Third Vice-President, Iniobong Pepple; and Treasurer, Esther Jimoh. They will review financial records, hear from involved parties, and report back to the NBA President by October 30, 2026.
Badejo-Okusanya confirmed that the Extraordinary General Meeting is set for October 15, 2026, at 2 PM. The committee members will attend to observe and help maintain order during the meeting.
She stressed that the formation of the committee does not imply anyone has done wrong. Everyone involved will have the chance to respond to the allegations. The NBA President is committed to ensuring that the investigation is fair and transparent, aiming to build trust among members.
