PANDEF Observes Week of Mourning for Deceased Leader Patrick Dele Cole

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has announced a seven-day mourning period for its leader, Patrick Dele Cole, who passed away in London at the age of 86. Cole, also known as Chief PDC, died shortly after celebrating his birthday, leaving a significant legacy in journalism, education, and politics.

In a statement from PANDEF’s National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, the organization expressed deep sorrow over Cole’s death, calling it a painful and irreplaceable loss. Cole was instrumental in the socio-cultural and political development of the Niger Delta and played a key role in the formation of PANDEF.

Cole’s career included serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Times of Nigeria and as a presidential adviser on foreign affairs. He was also Nigeria’s ambassador to Brazil. Igali noted that Cole contributed greatly to various organizations in the Niger Delta, bringing his experience and knowledge to the table.

PANDEF has instructed all its chapters in Nigeria and abroad to halt official activities for the mourning period, which starts on October 18, 2026. During this time, Cole’s photograph will be displayed on PANDEF’s media platforms.

Igali highlighted Cole’s dedication to the Niger Delta’s quest for true federalism and resource control. He noted that Cole’s political decisions were always aligned with the interests of the Niger Delta people. Cole had previously run for president under the Social Democratic Party and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party.

PANDEF also recognized Cole’s role as a Christian leader and his commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, particularly that of the South-South region. The organization extended condolences to Cole’s family, including his son, Rt. Hon. Tonye Cole, and to the wider community in Rivers State.
