Economist Urges Nigerians to Choose Candidates Who Boost Purchasing Power in 2027 Election

Paul Alaje, a senior economist at SPM Professionals, has advised Nigerians to evaluate presidential candidates in the 2027 election based on their ability to enhance purchasing power and reduce living costs. He emphasized that voters should look for candidates whose economic policies will allow them to buy more with their earnings.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Alaje stated that simply increasing wages is not enough if prices continue to rise faster than incomes. He urged voters to consider how candidates plan to make essential services, like education and healthcare, more affordable.

Alaje explained that the focus should be on which candidate can truly improve the real value of Nigerians’ earnings. He warned that economic policies that do not prioritize productivity could harm the country’s economic progress.

In addition to discussing the election, Alaje called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address Nigeria’s electricity issues. He noted that reliable power supply is crucial for improving the country’s economic performance.

Alaje pointed out that successful reforms in other countries were supported by strong economic fundamentals, which Nigeria must also consider to achieve similar results.
