Kogi Vigilantes and Army Rescue 18 Kidnap Victims in Recent Operations

Security forces in Kogi State have made significant progress in the fight against kidnapping, rescuing 18 victims in recent operations. The Kogi Vigilante Service (KSVS) and the Nigerian Army carried out these rescues on October 18 and 19.

The operations targeted suspected kidnappers in several locations including Overe Forest, Zariagi near Kabba Junction, and along the Kabba-Ayere Road. During these efforts, seven victims were rescued from a hideout in Overe Forest, while 11 others were saved along the Kabba-Ayere Road.

According to a statement from the KSVS, operatives from the Okene Command worked with local hunters to launch a rescue mission in Overe Forest after gathering intelligence. When the security team arrived, they encountered the kidnappers, leading to a gun battle. The vigilantes were able to overpower the suspects, who fled, leaving their captives behind.

In a separate incident, KSVS operatives in Zariagi thwarted another kidnapping attempt early on October 18. Responding to a distress call, they engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gunfight, forcing them to abandon their plan.

Meanwhile, troops from the 12 Composite Brigade of the Nigerian Army rescued 11 passengers who were threatened with abduction along the Kabba-Ayere Road. Acting on credible information, the soldiers confronted the kidnappers, leading to the rescue of nine passengers, including the driver, who were initially held. Two additional passengers were rescued in a follow-up operation.

The Comptroller-General of the KSVS praised the operatives for their bravery and urged them to continue their efforts to eliminate criminal activities in the state. He also encouraged residents to provide timely information to help improve security. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety and urged the public to assist security agencies in their fight against crime.
