Zelensky Responds to Trump’s Call for New Leadership in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his country could hold elections if Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire. This comment came after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine needs a new leader.

In a televised interview, Zelensky emphasized that it is up to the Ukrainian people to choose their leaders. He responded to Trump’s remarks by saying, “If you really want Ukraine to hold elections, please tell Putin to give us two months of total ceasefire, and we will organize elections.”

Trump had criticized Zelensky for recent attacks on Russian oil refineries, which he claimed have led to rising diesel prices. He urged Zelensky to refrain from targeting these refineries and suggested it was time for Ukraine to find a new president willing to end the conflict.

In a show of support for Zelensky, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham expressed solidarity with Ukraine during a call with the president. Burnham acknowledged the challenges Ukraine faced and reiterated the UK’s commitment to increasing sanctions against Russia.

Both leaders agreed to meet in person soon to discuss further actions against Russia and the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
