Leadership Crisis Hits Bauchi APM as Chairman Suspended
A leadership crisis has emerged within the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi. A faction of the party’s executives has suspended its chairman, Auwal Isah Mai Takalminroba, citing several issues including alleged financial mismanagement and a lack of confidence in his leadership.
The party’s Secretary, Mohammed Nasir Yahaya, spoke to reporters on Wednesday. He explained that the decision to suspend the chairman followed complaints about poor record-keeping and operating without an official bank account. The faction has appointed Hon. Nasiru Nuru Marafa as the interim chairman.
The crisis began after Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and other officials joined the APM. Yahaya claimed that the chairman changed the names on the party’s state executive committee to include people who were not original members. These individuals were reportedly loyal to the governor and had previously been part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Yahaya said that the governor’s camp wanted 70 percent control of the party’s leadership, leaving only 30 percent for original APM members. This led to the creation of a harmonization committee, which met for only four days before halting its activities.
He mentioned that the faction had informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s national leadership about the chairman’s suspension. Yahaya also noted that, among the 28 members of the state executive committee, only Mai Takalminroba had been actively involved in the party’s activities since 2018.
Governor Mohammed has reportedly assured the faction that he wants to resolve the internal issues amicably. However, the situation has revealed divisions within the party. The faction’s Publicity Secretary, AbdulShakur Danlami Mohammed, challenged Yahaya’s claim to the position of party secretary and stated that the party would provide an official response soon.
