Former Aide Claims Opposition to Fashola from Tinubu’s Inner Circle
Laolu Akande, a former aide to the president, has claimed that certain individuals close to President Bola Tinubu do not want Babatunde Fashola, the former governor of Lagos State, in the Federal Government. Akande believes this is because Fashola would not accept questionable practices within the administration.
In an interview on the Naija Unfiltered podcast, Akande mentioned that Fashola’s absence could be due to fatigue but emphasized that resistance from people around the President is a more significant reason. He stated, “Fashola is not going to tolerate many of those things that you are seeing around.”
Akande described Fashola as someone who stands firm on his principles and does not compromise on important issues. He noted that those who wish to engage in questionable activities would prefer not to have Fashola in the government.
While Akande did not name the individuals he accused of opposing Fashola or provide specific examples of the practices they wish to protect, he did highlight that Fashola remains close to Tinubu, with no public fallout between them. However, he suggested there may be underlying issues despite their apparent good relationship.
Akande also criticized the limited influence of some capable individuals within Tinubu’s administration. He argued that the President has not fully benefited from having strong figures who can challenge him when necessary, using Fashola as an example of someone who could provide that kind of support.
As of now, neither the Presidency nor Fashola has commented on Akande’s claims.
