PDP Leader Urges Oyo Governor Makinde to Highlight His Achievements for 2027

A former governorship candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to showcase his achievements as he prepares for the 2027 presidential election. Oluyede believes that leadership should be judged on accomplishments rather than youthful energy.

During a town hall meeting in Akure, Makinde emphasized that he would focus on energy and stamina in his campaign, rather than age. He stated, “When they bring their own presidential candidates, let the candidates come here and also jump down. If they can do that, vote for them.” However, Oluyede criticized this approach, saying that Nigeria needs leaders with proven experience and measurable achievements.

Oluyede argued that leadership is about what a person has achieved and the positive impact they have made, not just about being young or energetic. He stated, “Youthfulness without results is not leadership.” He urged Makinde to present his record and allow voters to evaluate it against the responsibilities of the presidency.

Furthermore, Oluyede pointed out that the presidency requires more than just physical stamina. It demands the ability to manage the economy, address security issues, and provide clear direction for national development. He also took issue with Makinde’s comments comparing his age and strength to that of President Bola Tinubu, highlighting that Tinubu has a history of political success and resilience.

Oluyede challenged Makinde to move beyond age comparisons and focus on his own political achievements and plans for Nigeria. He also questioned Makinde’s leadership within the PDP in the South-West, emphasizing the need for unity and effective management of party structures.
