Four People Killed, Seven Injured in Multiple Accidents in Lagos

Four people died and seven others were injured in three different road accidents in Lagos on Wednesday, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The most serious accident happened at Berger Bridge on the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway. An articulated truck carrying a large container collided with a Toyota Hiace bus. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, reported that the truck was speeding when it hit the bus. The truck driver lost control and the vehicle overturned onto the bus.

Four adult males died at the scene, while six others were injured. Emergency teams provided first aid and took the injured to Epe General Hospital for further treatment. A crane was arranged to recover the overturned truck and container, and efforts to clear the scene were ongoing.

In another incident, LASEMA responded to a truck accident near Vetland School on Old Abeokuta Road. A truck crashed into a solar-powered streetlight and blocked traffic. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this accident. The agency used heavy equipment to remove the truck and restore traffic flow.

A third accident involved a DAF truck and a Toyota Corolla at Lanre Bus Stop on LASU-Igando Road. The DAF truck, reportedly driving against traffic, collided with the Corolla, causing minor injuries to the Corolla’s driver. The injured driver was taken to Igando General Hospital.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu urged drivers to follow speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition. He also encouraged residents to report emergencies using the state’s toll-free lines.
