Atiku’s Spokesperson Critiques Tinubu’s Umrah Trip and Economic Claims

Phrank Shaibu, the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a pilgrimage in Islam. He stated that a second term in office cannot be secured through spiritual claims.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Shaibu argued that visiting the holy site should be a personal matter, not a political one. He accused Tinubu’s supporters of using the event for political gain.

Shaibu also questioned Tinubu’s sincerity, suggesting that if the President truly had faith, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai would not be in custody. He pointed out that while Tinubu spoke publicly in Saudi Arabia, many Nigerians are struggling with hunger and hardship.

According to Shaibu, the claims made by Tinubu’s administration about the economy improving are misleading. He believes that Nigerians will remember Tinubu’s prayers in Mecca alongside the rising costs of living.

When asked if Atiku would have joined Tinubu on the trip if invited, Shaibu mentioned that Atiku had previously sponsored Tinubu’s first trip to Mecca.

As for the upcoming 2027 presidential election, Shaibu expressed confidence in Atiku’s support across northern states, stating that he is well-positioned in the region.

Tinubu traveled to Makkah on October 29 to perform Umrah, where he sought guidance and blessings for Nigeria. After completing the rituals, he described the experience as fulfilling and expressed gratitude for his leadership role.
