Aisha Yesufu Calls on Nigerians to Fund Peter Obi’s 2027 Election Campaign
Activist Aisha Yesufu has started a fundraising campaign to support Peter Obi’s bid for the 2027 presidential election. In a video shared on X, she asked Nigerians to contribute financially to the campaign, emphasizing that they should not leave the funding solely to Obi.
Yesufu urged citizens who want to see change in Nigeria to take part in the campaign by making donations, no matter how small. She stated, “Peter Obi cannot do this alone. We need to take ownership of this campaign.”
Reflecting on the previous election, Yesufu noted that Obi had been hesitant about public fundraising. However, she argued that involving citizens in financing the campaign is essential for their emotional investment. She assured supporters that past fundraising efforts were transparent and accounted for.
Yesufu criticized the previous setup where Obi primarily funded his campaign, saying it was no longer feasible. She called on supporters to contribute, stating, “Every one of us have to put in our own widow’s mite.”
She clarified that this fundraising effort is separate from the Labour Party’s fundraising, which will have its own account details for donors. Yesufu promised to maintain transparency and accountability for every donation received, just as she did in 2023.
As the campaign for the 2027 election begins, Yesufu encourages Nigerians to support what she describes as a citizens’ campaign for Obi.
