Ebonyi Governor Launches Anti-Corruption Board, Emphasizes Fairness
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has officially launched the board of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission. This event took place during a ceremony at Government House in Abakaliki.
During his speech, Governor Nwifuru stressed the importance of integrity and fairness in the commission’s work. He warned that the fight against corruption must be objective and free from personal or political interests. He stated, “Corruption will always fight back whenever you confront it. However, if you maintain a sincere, focused, diligent, and objective approach, you will leave little to no room for corrupt practices to thrive.”
The Governor expanded the definition of corruption, explaining that it includes not only the misuse of funds but also administrative misconduct and unfair treatment in government processes. He highlighted that these issues can severely damage public service.
The Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission was established under a law passed in 2023. Its role is to ensure accountability, investigate complaints, and oversee the actions of various state government bodies.
Recognizing the challenges of overseeing all government activities, Nwifuru expressed hope that the new board would help address citizen complaints and suggest necessary reforms to enhance public service. He promised that his administration would support the board and allow it to operate independently, stating, “You have my full backing to execute your statutory mandate without interference.”
