Court Rules Against ADC Leadership, Keyamo Celebrates Decision

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed his approval of a recent court ruling that removed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark. The Federal High Court made this decision on Thursday, stating that the Mark-led Caretaker Committee was illegal.

Justice Peter Lifu declared all actions taken by this committee invalid, including the nomination of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election. Keyamo commented that the takeover of the party was improper and could not be justified.

Keyamo emphasized that political parties should not be taken over without proper meetings and approvals from party members. He criticized those involved in the takeover for attempting to blame their problems on the ruling party instead of taking responsibility for their actions.

The court’s ruling came after a lawsuit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the ADC. He argued that he should lead the party following the resignation of the previous National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu. The court agreed with Gombe’s claims and granted his requests.

Keyamo stated that the court’s decision was based on legal facts rather than public sentiment. He also noted that democracy is not threatened simply because a specific candidate, like Atiku Abubakar, is affected by legal rulings.

Atiku Abubakar had recently held a campaign rally in Sokoto State, and despite the court’s ruling, the ADC has announced plans to appeal the decision. The party’s National Welfare Secretary, Nkemakolam Ukandu, confirmed this intention.
