Nasarawa Governor Calls for Investigation into Disruption of APC Rally

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has instructed security agencies to investigate the disruption of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Lafia. The rally took place on Wednesday, and the governor’s order came during a security meeting at the Government House on Thursday.

The governor expressed concern over the events at the rally, which included an obstruction of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s convoy during his visit to the Emir of Lafia. Sule emphasized that the incident was a serious matter, as the Vice President represented President Bola Tinubu at the rally.

Sule stated, “This was an embarrassment not just to the state but to the Vice President and the President of Nigeria. We cannot take this lightly.” He called for a thorough investigation to hold accountable all those involved, not just a few individuals.

He noted that reports suggested some people planned to disrupt the rally ahead of time. During the event, an object believed to be a shoe was thrown towards the podium where the Vice President and other officials were standing. The governor also questioned the use of tear gas by security personnel at the venue.

Governor Sule praised the military and other security forces for their role in restoring order during the disruption. He warned against allowing political disagreements to escalate into violence, stating that such actions could lead to chaos in the state.

The Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, mentioned that the meeting aimed to address security issues related to the rally. He claimed that some individuals disguised as APC supporters disrupted the event and raised concerns about the police’s response to the situation.

Magaji also highlighted the need for answers regarding who planned the disruption and the overall security measures taken before and during the rally.
