Sokoto ADC Faction Names Zaki Tambuwal as 2027 Governorship Candidate
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has announced that Zaki Muhammad Tambuwal will be their candidate for the 2027 governorship election. This decision was made during a press conference on Thursday at the Press Centre in Sokoto.
The faction, led by Alhaji Faruku Umar, is challenging the party’s earlier choice of Manir Muhammad Dan’iya as the candidate. They believe their choice of Tambuwal is legitimate, especially after a recent court ruling in Abuja that nullified the emergence of former ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
Umar, who claims to be the recognized chairman of the ADC in Sokoto, stated that the faction supports Nafiu Bala’s leadership following his court victory. He emphasized that their decision aims to uphold the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
The faction plans to rally support for Tambuwal as they prepare for the upcoming election. They see this declaration as a way to ensure that the party’s candidate-selection process aligns with its rules and promotes internal democracy.
Umar urged ADC supporters in Sokoto to stay united and committed to the party’s processes. This announcement adds to the ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC, which have been affecting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
The faction is optimistic that their choice of Tambuwal will guide the party in Sokoto and strengthen its structure moving forward.
