Lagos Residents Advised to Expect Traffic Delays as APC Local Council Primaries Approach

Lagos Government Issues Detailed Traffic Advisory Ahead of APC Local Council Primaries

The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic advisory ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) local council primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2025. The advisory, issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, aims to ensure minimal disruption and public safety during the political exercise.

According to the statement, a full closure of ACME Road in Ikeja will be enforced throughout the duration of the primaries. The road will be inaccessible from three key entry points: Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Lateef Jakande Road, and ACME Crescent.

“The entire stretch of ACME Road will be closed off to vehicular movement during the primaries,” Osiyemi stated. “This is necessary to provide a secure and orderly environment around the venue.”

To mitigate the impact of the closure, the state government has provided a list of alternative routes for motorists:

  • From Adeniyi Jones: Drivers are advised to divert through Aromire Street to reach Allen Junction and continue to their destinations from there.
  • From Allen Avenue: Commuters should take Aromire Street, link Ladipo Oluwole, and proceed through the Guinness axis to reconnect with their routes.

  • From Akilo Road: Motorists can connect to Wemco Road, link Lateef Jakande, or travel through Omole to reach surrounding areas.

The commissioner also appealed to the public to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid the ACME Road axis if travel is not absolutely necessary.

“If you do not have any urgent or necessary business around the ACME Road area, please consider avoiding the axis entirely,” Osiyemi urged. “This will help reduce congestion, allow for a smoother electoral process, and ensure safety for all.”

Traffic officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed across the affected areas to direct motorists and manage traffic flow effectively.

Residents are encouraged to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement personnel, and follow real-time traffic updates from official channels.
