JAMB Brings in IT Experts to Investigate Technical Glitches in 2025 UTME Amid Mass Complaints

In response to widespread concerns over the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has initiated a comprehensive review of the examination process. This action follows reports of technical glitches and an unprecedented number of low scores among candidates.

Over 1.5 million of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks, prompting public outcry and petitions from affected students. Many candidates reported issues such as incomplete questions and system malfunctions during the examination.

To address these concerns, JAMB has engaged a panel of experts, including IT professionals from the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, vice-chancellors, chief external examiners, and members of the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa. The review will encompass all stages of the examination process: registration, testing, and result dissemination.

JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated that if technical faults are confirmed, appropriate remedial measures will be implemented promptly. The board is particularly scrutinizing complaints from specific regions to identify and rectify any systemic issues.

In addition to the internal review, over 8,000 candidates have filed formal complaints and are considering legal action against JAMB, demanding transparency in the scoring process and access to detailed mark sheets.

As the investigation progresses, JAMB aims to restore confidence in the UTME process and ensure fairness for all candidates.
