Eid-el-Kabir: Kano and Katsina Declare Extended School Holidays
In preparation for the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, several Nigerian states have announced extended school holidays to allow students and staff to partake in the festivities.
Kano State
The Kano State Government has declared a 12-day holiday for all public and private primary and secondary schools. The break commences on Wednesday, June 4, with boarding students expected to resume on Sunday, June 15, and day students on Monday, June 16. Parents and guardians are advised to collect their wards from boarding schools by the morning of June 4. The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, emphasized that this holiday aligns with the existing 2024/2025 academic calendar and urged timely resumption after the break.
Katsina State
Similarly, the Katsina State Government, through its Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has announced a seven-day holiday for primary and secondary schools to mark the Eid-el-Kabir festival. The holiday is intended to provide students and staff ample time to celebrate the occasion with their families.
These extended breaks reflect the cultural and religious significance of Eid-el-Kabir in the region, allowing communities to observe traditional practices and festivities associated with the holiday.
