ADC Raises Concerns Over Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Funding After Crash
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed serious concerns about the funding for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force aircraft after a crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday. The party believes this incident should lead to investigations not only into the crash itself but also into how much money is actually being spent on keeping military aircraft operational.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the crash as tragic and offered condolences to the families affected. The party pointed out that official records show that by December 2025, only about N4.5 billion had been released for the maintenance of Air Force aircraft out of a total budget of N34.71 billion. In contrast, N20.74 billion was allocated for the maintenance of the Presidential Air Fleet, with nearly all of that money released.
The ADC criticized this disparity, stating that while the fleet serving political leaders received nearly all of its funding, the fleet responsible for the safety of the general public was left with very little. They emphasized that the safety of military personnel should be prioritized just as much as that of political leaders.
The party called for the investigation into the crash to not only focus on its immediate cause but also to look at how military equipment is maintained and funded. They are advocating for an audit of the spending and budget releases for military aircraft to ensure that the funds are being used effectively.
