ADC Warns APC Against Desperation Over 2027 Elections After Court Ruling

ADC Warns APC Against Desperation Over 2027 Elections After Court Ruling

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a recent court ruling. The ADC claims the ruling party is trying to maintain power in 2027 by using the courts to weaken opposition parties.

This warning comes after a Federal High Court decision in Abuja that the ADC believes threatens its leadership and the candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The party argues that this ruling could impact many candidates seeking office across Nigeria.

In a statement, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, linked the timing of the court ruling to the APC’s growing concern over the opposition’s popularity, especially after a large campaign rally in Sokoto. He suggested that the ruling was pre-planned and was only delivered after the rally to undermine the ADC’s momentum.

The ADC emphasized that the issue is not just about individual politicians like Atiku Abubakar or Senator David Mark, but about the democratic rights of all Nigerians to choose their leaders freely. They argue that the ruling could prevent thousands of candidates from participating in the upcoming elections.

The party plans to challenge the court’s decision, citing a previous ruling that recognized the legitimacy of its leadership. The ADC insists that a court cannot overturn another court’s ruling of the same level.

Additionally, the ADC accused the APC of a pattern of using legal disputes to hinder opposition whenever it gains traction. They warned that the fight for power should not threaten national stability and urged the APC to avoid actions that could destabilize the country.

Abdullahi challenged President Bola Tinubu and the APC to trust the electoral process, questioning why a confident government would fear competition. He called on the judiciary to uphold democracy and urged ADC members to remain calm as they seek legal remedies.
