Akume Urges Northern Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Bid

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has called on the North to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 elections. He believes that any Northerner aiming for the presidency in 2027 would be acting against the interests of the region.

Speaking on Saturday to Benue State residents in Kaduna, Akume emphasized that the North should allow Tinubu to finish his political plans before considering its own presidential ambitions for 2031. He stated, “The North must remain united and focus on its collective interest rather than allow individual ambitions to divide us.”

Akume, a former governor of Benue State, argued that the region should think about its long-term political goals and what the 2027 election means for its future. He warned against political, religious, and personal divisions that could weaken the North’s influence.

“We must not allow political, religious or personal differences to undermine our common interests. The strength of the North lies in our ability to work together,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s various ethnic and religious groups, noting that national progress relies on unity. Akume urged people to carefully consider political developments and be wary of those whose ambitions might not align with the North’s broader interests.

The meeting included Benue indigenes living in Kaduna and other political figures, focusing on community issues and engagement with national leaders. The All Progressives Congress presidential campaign is set to officially launch in Kaduna, attracting party leaders and supporters from across the country.
