APC Campaign Council Denies Assassination Plot Against Atiku Abubakar
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has responded to serious allegations made by Timi Frank, a member of the African Democratic Congress. Frank claimed that the Nigerian government is planning to assassinate Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress.
Dele Alake, the spokesperson for the APC campaign council and Minister of Solid Minerals, stated that these claims are unfounded. He emphasized that neither President Bola Tinubu nor the APC is involved in any such plot. Alake urged Frank to provide evidence for his allegations, which he described as grave.
Frank expressed his concerns in an open letter to international leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump. He mentioned fears of intimidation and threats to Atiku’s life, particularly regarding his participation in the upcoming elections.
In response, the APC campaign council called for security agencies to question Frank about his claims. They stressed the importance of taking any credible threat to life seriously, regardless of political affiliation.
Alake also addressed rumors that Atiku’s security had been reduced. He confirmed that Atiku is well protected by police and other security agencies. In fact, President Tinubu has ordered increased security for all candidates, including Atiku, leading up to the 2027 elections.
The APC campaign council highlighted that Atiku, as a former Vice President, has two levels of state-funded security. They reiterated that President Tinubu understands the importance of opposition in a democracy and has a history of supporting opposition movements.
Finally, the council criticized Frank’s statements as typical of opposition tactics aimed at stirring unrest. They urged all political parties and their supporters to focus on issues affecting Nigerians rather than making unsubstantiated claims.
