Bayelsa Police Arrest 23 Suspected Cultists Amid Rising Violence

The Bayelsa State Police have arrested 23 people suspected of being involved in cult-related violence in Yenagoa and nearby areas. This action comes after a series of violent incidents that resulted in four deaths.

Police Commissioner Ajao Saka Adewale announced the arrests during a press briefing. He mentioned that the violence involved rival cult groups and occurred in several neighborhoods, prompting police to step up their patrols and operations.

During the operations, police recovered firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous items. Some suspects were found with weapons such as a locally made pistol and a pump-action gun. The police are also investigating the suspects’ connections to various cult groups.

Adewale emphasized the police’s commitment to tackling cult violence, stating they would not allow criminals to disrupt community peace. He called on community leaders and residents to help by discouraging young people from joining cults.

The police chief also highlighted the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to report any suspicious activities. He reassured the public that efforts would continue until those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered substances believed to be illegal drugs, including nitrous oxide and codeine. The police are determined to maintain pressure on cult activities and ensure the safety of residents.
