Boosting School Safety: Nasarawa SUBEB Partners NSCDC for Enhanced Protection of Pupils and Infrastructure

In a proactive move to safeguard educational environments across the state, the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has officially partnered with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance security in primary schools. The collaboration aims to protect pupils from abduction and secure school properties against persistent vandalism and burglary.

The partnership was solidified on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when Dr. Kassim Muhammad-Kassim, the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, hosted the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Kabir, at his office in Lafia.

Dr. Muhammad-Kassim confirmed that the Board has aligned with the NSCDC’s “The Safety School Programme Unit,” an initiative specifically designed to create a more secure and conducive academic atmosphere. “We had mobilized contractors to renovate and build new school structures, provide furniture, and spent a significant amount of money,” Dr. Muhammad-Kassim stated. “We will not allow criminals to vandalize these properties.”

The NSUBEB Chairman underscored the dual threat facing basic education: the direct danger of kidnapping to pupils and the economic loss due to the destruction and theft of vital school infrastructure. He appealed to Commandant Kabir to intensify efforts in apprehending individuals who purchase vandalized school properties, believing that effective monitoring and prosecution of these receivers would significantly deter criminal activities.

On his part, Commandant Mohammed Kabir congratulated the new NSUBEB chairman on his appointment and reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting schools. He highlighted that the “Safety School Programme” operates nationwide with a central control unit in Abuja, and the Corps is ready to extend full cooperation to Nasarawa State to ensure the safety of its schoolchildren and educational facilities.

This strategic alliance reflects the broader commitment of the Governor Abdullahi Sule administration to maintaining high standards of education and ensuring a safe learning environment. The partnership is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to secure schools, allowing teaching and non-teaching staff to carry out their duties without fear, and ensuring that pupils can learn in peace.
