Central Bank Governor Calls for Stronger Collaboration Between Government and Private Sector

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, has highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector. He made these remarks after the 2026 Annual Meetings of the World Bank in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday.

Cardoso noted that while the global economy has managed to adapt to various challenges, Nigeria and other nations cannot afford to become complacent. He stressed the importance of creating a supportive environment for private businesses to thrive, invest, and generate jobs.

He stated, “There has not been a greater time for collaboration across governments and the private sector than now,” emphasizing the need for joint efforts to navigate the current economic landscape.

During the same briefing, Taiwo Oyedele, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, shared that the Federal Government aims for a 7 percent economic growth rate to accelerate development. He mentioned that previous pressures on the economy from foreign exchange issues have eased, but new challenges related to food, energy, and logistics have emerged.

Oyedele also pointed to recent changes in the tax system as a positive step towards growth. He encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic and pay attention to the government’s reforms, stating that there are many opportunities available in the country.
