DSS Arrests Faisal Maina, Son of Former Pension Reform Chairman, in Abuja

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the son of Abdulrasheed Maina, who once led the Pension Reform Task Team. Faisal was taken into custody in the Karsana area of Abuja.

Faisal had been a fugitive since 2020, after he violated his bail conditions and left the country. He was being pursued by the DSS based on reliable information that he had secretly returned to Nigeria.

He was previously charged with money laundering and conspiracy by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In 2021, a judge sentenced him to 14 years in prison while he was still outside the country.

The court had ordered that Faisal be arrested anywhere in Nigeria and sent to a correctional facility to serve his sentence. If he was found abroad, the government was instructed to take steps to bring him back to face his punishment.

Now that he has been handed over to the EFCC, officials expect this will help enforce the court’s decision and ensure that Faisal serves his time as required by law.
