Ekiti Governor Supports New Digital Postcode System for Improved Services

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has shown strong support for the Federal Government’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode Project. He believes this initiative will help transform digital services and improve the delivery of essential services.

Oyebanji spoke at a workshop in Ado-Ekiti, where he was represented by Mr. Olusanmi Akintobi. He praised the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) for choosing Ekiti as one of the first states to implement this project. The governor noted that the new postcode system will solve issues with the old system, which often assigned the same code to many locations.

The updated system will create unique codes that are easy for machines and people to read, helping to accurately identify streets, buildings, and neighborhoods. This change is expected to improve access to services for residents.

Oyebanji committed to supporting the project through partnerships, investment in the Ekiti State Data Centre, and establishing a proper governance framework. He emphasized that having a digital address is crucial for any digital service and that this postcode initiative could make Ekiti a center for the digital economy.

Mrs. Tola Odeyemi, the Postmaster-General of NIPOST, also highlighted the significance of the project. She mentioned that the nationwide rollout began on October 1, and Ekiti was chosen for its strong educational and governance track record.
