FG, MOFI Finalize Roadmap with Flutterwave to Power Trade and Financial Inclusion

Nigeria has taken a significant step toward accelerating its digital economy, with the Federal Government (FG) and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) concluding a strategic meeting with Flutterwave Technology Solutions Limited. The high-level talks focused on forging a robust partnership to expand financial inclusion and leverage technology to empower small businesses nationwide.

The meeting, held in Abuja, saw the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and officials from MOFI engage with senior executives of Flutterwave, Africa’s foremost payments technology company.

The core of the discussion centred on utilizing Flutterwave’s advanced cross-border payment infrastructure, which currently facilitates trade, financial access, and entrepreneurship across more than 30 countries. The government seeks to strategically deploy this infrastructure to deepen access to finance, promote seamless cross-border commerce, and provide a significant boost to the country’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Mr. Edun commended Flutterwave’s role in driving technological innovation and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to making strategic investments that will not only foster financial inclusion but also empower local entrepreneurs.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the successful engagement culminated in an agreement on a clear roadmap for collaboration. Once officially finalized, this partnership is expected to not only strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy but also significantly reinforce private sector confidence in the country’s vibrant innovation landscape.

The move aligns with the administration’s broader agenda of repositioning Nigeria as a major global fintech hub, building on previous engagements where Flutterwave expressed its ambition to list on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) to further solidify its status as a leading Nigerian-bred technological success story.
