Fire Razes 34 Classrooms at Kano Animal Health College in Afternoon Outbreak
Education at the Animal Health School in the Kabo area of Kano State has suffered a devastating blow after a massive fire tore through the campus, destroying dozens of learning spaces. The outbreak, which began in the heat of the afternoon, has left a significant portion of the school’s infrastructure in ruins.
Official reports from the Kano State Fire Service confirm that the fire was first spotted at about 2:53 pm on Monday. By the time emergency crews from the Rijiyar Zaki station arrived, a massive ground floor building was already heavily engulfed in flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, the brave efforts of the firefighting team ensured the blaze was contained before it could spread to nearby offices and other residential blocks.
In total, 34 classrooms were hit by the disaster. While 18 of the rooms were partially saved, 16 were completely reduced to ashes, leaving students and staff without their primary learning environment. The spokesperson for the fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, noted that it was through “divine intervention and prompt response” that the damage was not more widespread.
Thankfully, there were no reports of deaths or injuries among the students or faculty. However, the loss of furniture, learning materials, and the structural damage to the 500 by 500 foot facility represents a major setback for the institution. Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine exactly what sparked the fire, and residents are being urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of smoke or electrical faults immediately to prevent similar tragedies.
