Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Pledges Unwavering Commitment to Transparency and Accountability in State Finances

The Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, today, Sunday, November 16, 2025, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the principles of transparency, accountability, and probity in the management of the state’s resources.

Speaking at the National Summit on Accountability and Transparency in Governance in Abuja, Governor Yusuf stated that his government views public funds as a sacred trust and recognizes that demonstrating openness is essential for building and sustaining the trust of the Kano populace.

“For my administration, transparency is not just an option; it is the bedrock of good governance and the only guarantee for sustainable development,” Governor Yusuf stated. “We were elected on a mandate to restore sanity and efficiency, and that begins with ensuring that every naira belonging to the people is accounted for and utilized for their benefit.”

Measures to Curb Corruption

The Governor highlighted several proactive measures his government has implemented since taking office to sanitize public finance management and combat corruption:

  • Public Disclosure: His administration has commenced the practice of publishing major financial transactions and key revenue data on the state’s official website to enhance public scrutiny.

  • Strengthened Oversight: He emphasized the strengthening of internal audit and monitoring mechanisms across all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

  • Autonomy for Anti-Graft Agencies: Crucially, the Governor confirmed that the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has been granted the full operational autonomy required to investigate and prosecute financial crimes without interference.
