Kwara Constituents Demand Fair Political Representation Amid Exclusion Claims

Hussein Afolabi, an aspirant for the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized a local leader over comments made about political representation in Moro, Kwara State. The remarks were made by Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, during a meeting on October 8, 2026.

At the meeting held in Bode Saadu, Danladi suggested that Moro residents should not claim they lack candidates for upcoming elections, pointing to himself and other candidates from the area. However, Afolabi argued that this response did not address the community’s long-standing desire for its own representative in the National Assembly.

Afolabi highlighted that since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, representatives from the neighboring areas of Edu and Patigi have held all Senate and House of Representatives seats, leaving Moro without a voice at the federal level. He insisted that the community’s demand for inclusion should be taken seriously.

He compared the situation to the ongoing push for the governorship position in Kwara North, questioning whether the district should be told to accept past governors from other regions. Afolabi emphasized that fair political representation should apply at both state and federal levels.

During the meeting, the Moro Descendants Development Union presented concerns about the community’s political standing in Kwara North. Afolabi urged political leaders to address these issues with fairness and sensitivity rather than dismissing them.

He also mentioned a pending legal case regarding the APC ticket for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, where he is the plaintiff. Afolabi expressed worry over Danladi’s comments about a candidate’s nomination while the matter is still in court, calling for restraint in discussing the issue until a decision is made.

Afolabi encouraged the people of Moro to continue pursuing their political goals through peaceful means, describing their demand for representation as legitimate.
