Missile Attack at Riyadh Airport Causes Panic and Injuries
On Saturday, a missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi group struck Riyadh’s international airport, resulting in injuries and chaos among passengers. A diplomatic source reported that dozens were hurt, and witnesses described a scene of panic in the terminal.
One witness waiting to board a flight heard an explosion and saw people injured near gate 401. “I saw injured in front of my eyes. Everyone was running,” the witness said. A local hospital source confirmed that five people were in intensive care, with many others suffering injuries from shattered glass.
Although Saudi authorities did not officially confirm the attack or any evacuations, multiple witnesses reported seeing people being evacuated from the airport. The attack occurred around 3:00 PM local time, according to the diplomatic source.
This missile strike follows previous attacks on the airport earlier in the week, which resulted in fatalities, including a pilot for Saudia, the national airline. The Houthis have been targeting Saudi airports and other civilian sites since a truce with the Saudi-backed Yemeni government collapsed in July.
In response to the ongoing violence, Riyadh airport advised passengers to check their flight status before arriving, similar to a warning issued after the earlier attacks. The situation remains tense, with both the Houthis and Saudi forces showing no signs of pursuing peace talks.
Meanwhile, in Yemen, Saudi-supported government forces are reportedly making advances against the Houthis in strategic areas. The conflict continues to escalate, with claims from both sides difficult to verify due to the rapidly changing situation on the ground.
