Mourinho Calls Comparisons to Barcelona Unfair Before La Liga Clash

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes it is unfair to compare his team to Barcelona ahead of their upcoming match on Sunday in La Liga. Barcelona, led by coach Hansi Flick, has won the last two league titles and remains unbeaten this season. In contrast, Mourinho joined Madrid this summer after the team went two seasons without a major trophy.

Recently, the situation shifted slightly when Barcelona lost their first match of the season against Paris Saint-Germain, while Real Madrid has won their last four games. Currently, Madrid sits third in La Liga, trailing Barcelona by six points before the big match at Camp Nou.

Mourinho expressed his thoughts during a press conference, stating, “I think the people that thought a week ago Barca would thrash us will keep thinking the same thing.” He emphasized that despite recent performances, opinions about the teams may not change easily.

The coach pointed out that he has only been with the team for a few months, while Flick has been at Barcelona since 2024. He remarked, “People look at us like a finished product, but finished products in football are difficult because they are never finished.” Mourinho stressed that his team is still in the early stages of development.

He also mentioned that past performances do not matter in the Clasico, saying, “The Clasico is unique, normally the football world stops to watch it. Hopefully it’s a great game. And we win.”

Regarding Barcelona’s talented winger Lamine Yamal, Mourinho stated that while he respects great players, he will not change his team’s strategy to accommodate any individual player.
