Negative Ebola Tests in Adamawa Calm Fears of Outbreak

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced that two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Adamawa State tested negative after thorough laboratory testing. This news comes as a relief, assuring the public that the only confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria is still in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris, the two individuals showed symptoms similar to Ebola and were isolated while health officials investigated. The tests were conducted on samples collected from them, and both returned negative results after two rounds of testing.

Dr. Idris praised the proactive measures taken by the Adamawa State Health Commissioner and his team. He emphasized that there are currently no confirmed Ebola cases in Adamawa, reinforcing that the only confirmed case remains in the Federal Capital Territory.

This announcement follows heightened health vigilance due to a recent Ebola case in Abuja involving a traveler from Uganda. The emergence of suspected cases in Adamawa raised concerns about a potential spread of the virus, prompting both state and federal health authorities to take precautionary actions.

Dr. Idris urged the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information. He encouraged people to seek information from official health channels and to be vigilant about symptoms associated with Ebola, such as fever and severe weakness.

The NCDC will continue to work with the Adamawa State Government and other partners to monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available. The agency remains committed to protecting public health through early detection and effective communication.
