Nigeria Aims for 7% Economic Growth Amid Changing Challenges

Nigeria’s government is aiming for a 7% growth rate in its economy. This goal is part of a broader effort to boost development across the country, according to Taiwo Oyedele, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Speaking at a press conference after the World Bank’s annual meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, Oyedele noted that the country is moving towards accelerated growth. He mentioned that previous challenges related to foreign exchange have lessened, and the focus has now shifted to issues like food supply, energy, and logistics.

Oyedele highlighted recent changes to the tax system as a sign of progress. He encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic about their country and to pay attention to government reforms, stating that opportunities exist throughout Nigeria.

Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, also spoke at the event. He acknowledged that while the global economy has faced challenges, it has managed to adapt. However, he warned against becoming complacent.

Cardoso emphasized the role of the private sector in creating jobs and fostering investment. He called for stronger collaboration between the government and businesses to create a supportive environment for economic growth.
