NSCDC Mining Marshals Step Up Actions Against Illegal Mining Across Nigeria

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals are ramping up their efforts to combat illegal mining throughout the country. This initiative aims to protect mineral resources and ensure that mining operations follow safety and regulatory standards.

The latest operation occurred in Nasarawa State, where the NSCDC collaborated with the Federal Mines Officer and the state mining regulatory team. Their focus was on making sure mining operators adhered to existing laws and safety requirements.

This nationwide crackdown is part of the NSCDC’s commitment, led by Commandant-General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to support the goals of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake. These goals include stopping illegal mining, preventing loss of revenue, and encouraging safe mining practices to boost investor confidence.

ACC Attah John Onoja, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, stated that enforcement operations will continue across Nigeria without a set schedule. He emphasized that mining operators must have valid licenses and meet all regulatory requirements before starting their operations.

Onoja also highlighted the importance of regular monitoring and inspections of mining sites to ensure safety compliance. He noted that following these requirements could help prevent accidents, such as mine collapses, and protect both workers and local communities.

The Mining Marshals are urging all stakeholders in the mining industry to adopt lawful practices. They warned that violations of mining laws will lead to enforcement actions. The Corps remains dedicated to safeguarding Nigeria’s mineral resources and promoting a safer, more transparent mining sector.
