Nyesom Wike Responds to Court Ruling on Imo-West APC Candidate
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has spoken out about a recent court ruling that invalidated the recognition of Hope Uzodimma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo-West senatorial district in the upcoming 2027 elections. Wike made his comments during a media chat in Portharcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday.
Wike dismissed claims that he was involved in the court’s decision, calling those who suggest otherwise mischievous. He acknowledged that he disagrees with Uzodimma over the governor’s rainbow coalition initiative but insisted he is not aware of the internal political struggles within the APC.
Wike questioned Uzodimma’s fears regarding the rainbow coalition, asking, “What is Uzodimma afraid of?” He emphasized that he did not take the matter to court and pointed out that he is not a member of the APC.
He also mentioned that both he and Uzodimma should focus on re-electing President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Wike stated, “Your business is to make sure Mr. President wins elections,” and highlighted the importance of cooperation at the national assembly level.
Wike concluded by suggesting that if Uzodimma is confident, he should not be afraid of political challenges. He expressed that friendships in politics should not lead to hostility, stating, “I owe no apologies that Rochas is my friend.”
