Ogun CP Establishes Police Post at OOU Ibogun After 12-Man Gang Terrorizes Hostels; Several Students Injured in Midnight Raid as Robbers Abandon Stolen Car
The Ogun State Police Command has moved to fortify the security architecture of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ibogun Campus following a harrowing armed robbery that left several students injured and the campus community in a state of shock.
Today Monday, April 27, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the hostels and announced the immediate creation of a new police post to provide a permanent security presence in the area. The crisis began in the early hours of Saturday when a coordinated gang of 12 armed men stormed the student residential zones. Eyewitness accounts from students described a night of terror, characterized by steady gunfire as the hoodlums moved from one hostel to another, forcing their way into rooms. While many students escaped into the surrounding bushes, those caught in the “trenches” of the attack were dispossessed of their laptops, expensive smartphones, and personal savings.
In the chaos, several victims sustained deep cuts and bruises, with some requiring urgent medical attention for bleeding. The robbers attempted a daring getaway in a student’s car, but the vehicle was found abandoned a short distance from the campus after it ran out of fuel. The incident sparked immediate outrage among the student body, who lamented that they had been complaining about the “porous” nature of the Ibogun campus for over three months.
During a strategic engagement with the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, and the local monarch, Oba Timothy Sowumi, CP Ojajuni emphasized that the new police post is designed to act as a “rapid response hub.” He noted that the Command is reviewing its community policing initiatives to ensure that the “school-to-community” corridor is no longer a soft target for criminals. “We are here to reassure the students that their safety is a priority.
This new post will ensure that our men are just a call away,” the CP stated. As of Monday evening, the campus remains under heightened surveillance, with the Area Commander for Ifo coordinating a manhunt for the suspects. While the university management works to repair the damaged hostel facilities, the OGD-style resilience of the student community is being tested as they look to the police to deliver justice and prevent a recurrence of the “bloody Saturday” raid.
