Onanuga Criticizes Peter Obi’s Call for More Sports Investment

Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has taken aim at former Anambra State governor Peter Obi. Onanuga criticized Obi for urging the Federal Government to invest more in sports.

In a post on X, Onanuga described Obi’s comments as reckless. He stated, “Headlines don’t lie like Peter Obi lies, recklessly,” and pointed out that Obi’s record on sports during his time as governor is well known.

Onanuga also claimed that athletes with disabilities were poorly treated during Obi’s administration. He questioned Obi’s recent call for increased government spending on sports, citing his past performance in Anambra.

Obi’s remarks came after he attended a Nigeria Premier Football League match in Lagos. He expressed his belief that Nigeria has a wealth of sporting talent but lacks the necessary vision and commitment to develop it into opportunities for young people.
