Ondo State Government Urges Businesses to Avoid Fake and Expired Products

The Ondo State Government has issued a warning to businesses about the dangers of producing and selling fake, expired, and low-quality products. This announcement came during a meeting organized by the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (ODCCPA) aimed at promoting fair business practices and protecting consumers.

Pastor Bola Ademuwagun, the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative Services, emphasized that businesses must prioritize public health and safety over profits. He stated that those who break the law will face prosecution and penalties.

Ademuwagun called for better cooperation among government agencies, manufacturers, and retailers to ensure consumer protection. He highlighted the need for regular inspections of markets and shops to remove harmful products from sale.

Oluyemi Fasipe, the Executive Chairman of ODCCPA, described the meeting as a chance for open dialogue with business operators. He noted that while businesses contribute to the economy, they must operate transparently and responsibly.

Fasipe also mentioned that two environmental sanitation officers would be assigned to each local government area to help monitor commercial activities and identify unsafe products. He assured stakeholders that the agency would take a balanced approach, focusing on education and enforcement.

Representatives from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control also stressed the importance of consumer vigilance. They advised people to check product labels and expiry dates before making purchases to avoid health risks.

Officials urged businesses to comply with regulations and work together to create a safe shopping environment for consumers.
